Wolverhampton Airport
Wolverhampton Business Airport (at Halfpenny Green) is
a small airfield which lacks many of the basic infrastructure requirements
for use by large aircraft. It is also very difficult to get to by car
or public transport from major centres of population, including the Black
Country.
It is located in the Green Belt, in a particularly important swathe of
countryside which stretches unspoilt from the edge of the West Midlands
conurbation to the Welsh Marches in Shropshire.
However, this did not stop the previous owners seeking to introduce commercial
aircraft.
Previous proposals to expand the airport also relied on provision of highly
damaging new bypasses through the Green Belt to the West of Wolverhampton
and Stourbridge which we and local residents successfully defeated in
2004.
We continue to oppose expansion of the airport and believe that it is
not suitable for use for commercial aviation.
